DB Copy Plugin is a database copying plugin for the SQuirreL SQL Client. It makes it possible to copy and paste tables from one session to another and between different databases and includes primary key and foreign key constraints for copied tables, and uses Hibernate 3.0 internally to perform database object type mappings. It supports Firebird, Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, MySQL, HyperSonic, Pointbase, and PostgreSQL, and allows the user to select a Hibernate dialect for the destination database if one couldn’t be determined automatically.

Devrace have published an article entitled “How to work with Blobs using FIBPlus” written by Sergey Vostrikov, translated by Marina Novikova.
Specially in Brazil, it is known that Firebird is very strong inside the Delphi community. But a survey from Portal Java, a Java devoted Brazilian portal, shows that FB is very well positioned among the +2,380 Java users who had voted. Check the full ranking here.
PS: Unfortunatelly the survey option shows “InterBase/Firebird”. I hope survey/poll publishers start to understand that they are diferent products, and separate them in the next surveys.
There are two new InterBase presentations from the lastest Borland conference available for online watching:
First one is about new security features of InterBase.
Second one is about the usage of ADO.Net in Delphi 2006 with InterBase. Of course, almost all the info there can be applied to Firebird, since we have a Firebird .Net Provider!
Thanks Alexey for the links.
Alexey (from IBSurgeon) just informed me about a funny link! Register yourself there and let’s populate the “world” with Firebird users!
Interesting article published on ComputerWorld: High-Speed Databases Rev Corporate Apps.
“…Some of the new products simply move the action from disk to memory, where access is a million times faster. Others are more radical departures from tradition, such as “streaming” technologies that store queries and pass data through them rather than run queries against stored data. Still others have found clever ways to sidestep much of the overhead — such as table locking — associated with the traditional RDBMS…”
The second issue of “The InterBase and Firebird Developer Magazine” is available on the web now: http://ibdeveloper.com/issues/issue-2-oct-17-2005/.
It is available to read, discuss and provide links to your favorite articles. Don’t hesitate to comment articles and ask questions to magazine authors and editors.

FireBase has put online a survey to check user preferences for the next edition of the Firebird Developers Day conference, due in Brazil later this year. FDD has become the biggest Firebird event (regarding number of participants) with the last edition holding 600+ people.
It is a conference done mostly in portuguese language, so if you speak portuguese and plan to participate, you can answer the survey here.
