MySQL Takes Another Step (Away from Open Source)

In the ongoing effort to convert more users into paying customers, MySQL announced today that they are no longer making the source code tarball for their Enterprise server publicly available. You could see this coming from a million miles away.

The World’s Largest Firebird Gathering

This Saturday the 4th Firebird Developer’s Day brought together about 600 Firebird users who attended 14 different sessions. Among the speakers were Holger Klemt, owner of H-K software (IBExpert), Nikolay Samofatov, CTO of Red Soft and Dmitri Kouzmenko, Director of IBase.ru and CEO of IBSurgeon.

Keeping with the tradition of having over 500 attendees Firebird Developer’s Day, in Brazil, continues to be the largest gathering of Firebird users in the world.

Firebird Maestro 7.7 released

Firebird Maestro SQL Maestro Group is happy to announce the release of Firebird Maestro 7.7, a powerful Windows GUI solution for Firebird administration and database development.

New version features:

  • Unicode/UTF-8 data management.
  • Since this version Firebird Maestro works fine with embedded Firebird server.
  • Transaction Browser is implemented (Firebird 2.1). This feature is very useful for DBAs who want to monitor the users’ activity.
  • Support of database triggers from Firebird 2.1 is added to the software.
  • Database Designer: a possibility of locking/unlocking diagram objects is added.
  • It is now possible to execute SQL scripts after connect and before disconnect to/from a database.
