Citrix EdgeSight uses Firebird

Citrix® EdgeSight™ is a performance and availability management solution for XenDesktop, XenApp and endpoint systems. EdgeSight monitors applications, devices, sessions, license usage, and the network in real time, allowing users to quickly analyze, resolve, and proactively prevent problems.

In the EdgeSight support page, we can find the following:

The EdgeSight agent is continuously monitoring every process that is running on the monitored device. In turn, it is continuously writing performance data to its local Firebird SQL database.

So, one more big company using Firebird.

How many more are out there, and we still don’t know? 🙂

MySQL versus Firebird – SQL standard features

Peter Gulutzan (ex Mysql at Oracle arhitect) decided to compare the current versions of MySQL 5.6 and Firebird SQL 2.5. he only looked at SQL standard features that end users can see, without benchmarking

but some comments / content can be stalled

It’s a weird score because they (Sun/Oracle) didn’t delivered mysql 6 and compared to it Firebird 3 is a major arhitectural change and rewrite and it doesn’t deserve the penalty box

Firebird 2.5.2 updated in Ubuntu ppa includes icu fix from Debian

I have synced Firebird 2.5.2 package with version in Debian including icu 52.1
loading fix for all supported releases.

The icu loading issue is fixed in Ubuntu Trusty Tahr 14.04 Firebird 2.5 package
ps: Support for Raring was removed (no longer supported by Canonical)

Firebird and Unicode databases

The first encounter with unicode databases and collations on Firebird may be confusing, as it was for me and it may take some time to grasp the concepts and settings. This article describes the principles and catches and gives the examples how to set up a UTF-8 database in Firebird SQL server 2.5, how to setup ICU libraries and how to use national collations (eg. czech).

Firebird-delphi group

A few years ago Helen Borrie set up a firebird-delphi group and then somehow
managed not to list it on our support pages – so it has no members and
no traffic. Yahoo is going to delete it on March 6 unless I inform
them that we want to keep it.
