Firebird Sql 2.5 for #Apple #MacOSX is out, Minimum supported version is 10.6 Snow Leopard

NOTE :: To make the new engine work properly under multi-threaded conditions we had to use Grand Central Dispatch, which was first released in MacOSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard). MacOSX users should be aware that Firebird 2.5 will run only on MacOSX 10.6 or higher versions. If you want to use an earlier version of OSX you will need to use an earlier version of Firebird.

Little helper library for writing #UDFs for Firebird in #Lua

Helper C library for writing UDFs for Firebird in Lua (as well as a small collection of useful UDFs). The Firebird UDF interface would hopefully be obsoleted in Firebird v3.0 and replaced with the new External Engine API. Until then, I hope you find this little library helpful. Any feedback is welcome and appreciated.

For tips on how to write UDFs for Firebird yourself, read UdfWritingTips.

PS: If writing UDFs in Lua seems overkill, checkout the other UDF library written in freepascal.

Philippe Makowski posted this at fb-devel:

Hi,

I found this bench : http://tokutek.com/products/iibench/

and aibench.py:

I made a Firebird version of both. You can download them here : http://www.firebirdsql.org/download/rabbits/pmakowski/

If you find them useful, I will put them in the svn QA repository

Is it possible to write a similar Firebird database driver?

Today we are (IBProvider team) overwhelmingly happy because we have finally released the final build of the 3rd version of IBProvider.

Is it possible to write a similar database driver?

Of course, you can write it! All you need is a strong desire and 7 years of free time. Exactly the same time it took us to write the third version of IBProvider.

Please read about development results here and download new Firebird driver here:
