AnySQL Maestro SQL Maestro Group announces the release of AnySQL Maestro 9.8, a powerful tool to manage any database engine accessible via ODBC driver or OLE DB provider (Access, SQL Server, Firebird, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc). Key features include graphical database designer, visual query builder, data export and import, BLOB Viewer/Editor, and a lot of other things.

    AnySQL Maestro has been successfully tested with Firebird ODBC drivers 1.xx and 2.0 RC1 and all the latest Firebird server versions up to 2.5 Beta 2.

    Here is what Milan Babuskov wrote about his experience with Linux Slackware and Firebird related packages on x64 system :

    I just installed Slamd64 version 12.2. I know that Slackware -current is 64bit and Slackware 13.0 is out, but out-of-the-box 32bit compatibility of Slamd64 is very tempting, so this is the first 64bit slackware I installed.
    Install went fine, and KDE is running in a matter of seconds. Now, time to compile all the needed stuff for development. Basically, all I need is Firebird, FlameRobin and PHP extension for Firebird (i.e. InterBase).

    Firebird is #1 with Delphi

    Wings of Wind blog talks about Firebird support requests for Delphi, with interesting numbers:

    The main complaint of some folks was about (lack of) support for their favorite database engine. As perhaps, you know, in this release there is no official SQLite and PostgreSQL support. Well, giving in account that we have already a new DBX driver in this version (Firebird) and the number of votes for PostgresSQL and SQLite compared with the ones for the Firebird DBX driver (which was #1 in QC with more than 1000 votes on all reports – duplicates, variants etc.) is a quite expected result.

    Firebird + MS SQL + mySQL accounts more than 50% from your preferences with Firebird as clear leader. (MS SQL + mySQL = Firebird percentage). Closely follows Oracle and Access (!). Now, with the acquisition of SUN the things (perhaps) will change.

    Also we see a bunch of Firebird/Interbase solutions which are high in ranking: FIBPlus, and a little bit lower IBX and IBObjects almost in par.

    Climbing the firebird learning curve
