Oracle licenses Open Invention Network patents

I guess patent “protection” apply to firebird too

Oracle has signed a patent agreement with the Open Invention Network (OIN).

OIN is an association of major companies from the IT and entertainment electronics sector that manages its own pool of patents as a nonprofit organization. The pool now contains more than a hundred strategic patents that can be used for free by anyone who promises not to exert any patent claims against Linux and other open-source software. The database vendor is the most recent licensee.

Oracle’s participation is especially interesting because patent protection for the network also applies to the two free databases MySQL and PostgreSQL.
